At the end of January three members of Sutton Coldfield Speakers’ Club judged the Youth Speaks Competition organised by the Rotary Club of Wylde Green.

Youth Speaks offers young people the experience of speaking on a public platform as a member of a team. Competing in this year’s competition were Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School, Highclare School and Park Hall Academy. As judges, we were impressed by the confidence shown by all of these young people and were pleased to announce that the Highclare intermediate team and the Park Hall Senior team would be going through to the next round of the competition.
Sutton Coldfield Speakers’ Club also held their own internal competition in January to select club representatives for the West Midlands Area Speaking Contest. Bob Green was a worthy winner of the Main Speech competition after a captivating speech about the health benefits of laughter. Gary Allmark will go forward in the Topics Competition after a well-constructed impromptu mini-speech on the subject ‘Heart’.
